Cool Windows Keyboard Shortcuts

Here are the keyboard shortcuts I use the most:

Shortcut

Action

F2

Rename clicked file (in Windows) or edit clicked cell (in Excel).

Shift + F3

For any highlighted text, cycle among all-caps, lowercase, and title case. Click Format, Change Case for more options.

F5

Refresh your page in Explorer and Web browser windows.

Ctrl + Esc

Open the Start menu (useful if your mouse won't respond).

Ctrl + Space

Reset the highlighted text to the default font (in Word).

Ctrl + mouse wheel

Zoom in and out.

Windows + L

Password-lock the computer. This is especially useful on a networked computer.

Windows + R

Open the Run dialog box.

Windows + M or
Windows + D

Minimize all windows. If you use Windows + D, you can repeat it to maximize the windows again.

Windows key

Launches the Start menu. This is useful when your mouse stops working. You can then use your arrow pad to get to shutdown.

Ctrl + Shift + *

Show or Hide formatting (in Word)

Windows + E

Launch Windows Explorer.

Ctrl + Shift + F10

Show desktop menu (in Windows) (same as right clicking on desktop)

Windows + Pause/Break

Opens Windows system properties.
